Rosemary DeCamp as Helen Marie

Helen Marie is nearly a typical 50's/60's housewife - ever dutiful to husband, Lou. Although we never see her clean (and in several episodes there are on-again off-again maids), we do see Helen in an apron quite often. She's always willing to try to solve any problem with freshly baked cookies or pastries.

She does, however, provide a softer, more calming side to Ann's parents, being the one to keep Lou's temper in-check when he's run off on another of his flights of Hollinger-driven paranoid fantasies. There's a gentle sweetness to the character of Helen Marie that appeals to all of us. She reminds us of our own mothers, or possibly the Mothers we wish we'd had.

We the fans, though, would love to have had the chance to have a deeper look into what made Helen Marie tick. What was her past? How did she react to the world when she was Ann's age? I suspect the Ann-Daddy dynamic was a stronger part of the show because it was a stronger part of Marlo's real-life relationship with her father, Danny Thomas. I can't help but notice however, that Helen Marie reminds me a lot of Rose Thomas (Marlo's real mom).
